Dear Public Health Colleague:

The Oregon Public Health Association with the American Public Health
Association and several other organizations are undertaking an
internet-based flu surveillance project called Flu Near You. It's a
way of tracking flu symptoms using social networking. People will use
the Flu Near You surveillance tool to report their flu symptoms, which
will help map influenza in the U.S. You can also see who around you is
reporting flu symptoms.  You can be part of this innovative study and
help OPHA win incentives from APHA to further our mission of promoting
public health in Oregon. All you have to do is sign up and then
complete a brief survey (2 questions) every week for early detection
of flu epidemics.

To register visit http://www.flunearyou.org/?a=6eab68faf63182
While this is a epi survey over the course of the next 9 months, the
Oregon Public Health Association stands to acquire financial
incentives if a lot of people participate using this link.  Help
support us, and track where the flu is showing up in your community.

So PLEASE pass this link on to your social networks.  This is for everyone.

We should be following experiments like this that use interesting
connections to track diseases. For example, if you have not see it
already, look at flu trends at google:

http://www.google.org/flutrends/us/#US

Again, click on the flu near you link above, participate, and share
with your networks.

Thanks for your time! (And apologies if I've previously notified you)

Sincerely,

Lesa Dixon-Gray
OPHA Board Member
