Join us May 19th for Open Heart, Mind, Soul and I am Whole: Conversations about Sexuality and Dis/ability!
This free presentation and discussion titled, "Open Heart, Mind, Soul, and I am Whole: Conversations about Sexuality and Dis/ability" is brought to you through a partnership between the Disability Section and the Health Education and Promotion Section of the Oregon Public Health Association (OPHA).
What: A presentation and discussion including key topics that underpin disability and sexuality and its applicability within community based settings. Presenters and discussion leaders: Dana Owens and Neera Malhotra.
Dana Owens is a health educator for the Companion Program, and has a Bachelors degree in Public Health from Oregon State University. He developed a course titled Meaningful Relationships & Sexuality, which is taught to adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the tri-county area. Dana has severe Cerebral Palsy and hearing loss, and is a great advocate for individuals with disabilities.
Neera Malhotra is a doctoral candidate at Portland State University. She holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership (endorsement in sexuality studies) and Masters in Special Education. Prior to being part of the doctoral program, Neera worked as an Instructor at the Department of Education, Lady Irvin College, Delhi University, India and as a trainer & writer with Sense International India. Her research and scholarly interests include social foundations of dis/abilities (disability studies), gender, race, and sexuality studies, sexuality education, and theater in education.
Date: Tuesday, May 19th Cost: FREEThis even has been approved for 2 Category 1 CHES Credits. (free) Time: 12:00pm-3:00pm· Lunch will be provided for free at 12:00pm to the first 50 people registered. (Lunch is $10 per person after first 50.)
· Presentation begins at 12:30pm.
Who should attend: Health educators, public health professionals, instructors and teachers, health and community advocates, medical professionals, and anyone interested in learning more about this topic. This event is open to everyone! Location: Kaiser Town Hall Venue (Ballroom)
