General Description: Portland State University Library. The Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian provides reference and information services for the University's students and faculty as well as members of the general public, participates in a dynamic instructional program, consults and collaborates with scholars in specific academic units, including classroom and online instruction, and possibly for-credit courses, and selects information resources to support the instructional and research needs of a diverse institution. Some evening and weekend reference duty and/or instruction is required. Portland State expects its tenured faculty to contribute to faculty governance activities within the Library and the University, engage in community and professional service, and pursue an active publication and research agenda, seeking grants as appropriate. This full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position reports to the Assistant University Librarian for Public Services.
Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS; two years of full-time professional post-MLS experience in an academic library setting; evidence of professional service and scholarship; effective communications and collaborative skills; experience with library systems and Internet applications; collection development experience; experience using digital and Web technologies in the delivery of library services; experience integrating information literacy concepts into teaching; experience developing reference and instruction services; must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check and provide transcripts. Library Technician 2: Latino Liaison. Springfield, Oregon. $15.79 - $19.15/hour plus benefits including PERS. Potential 5% language bonus depending on Spanish ability. This 32 hour a week position performs a variety of paraprofessional library support services. We require two years course work at an accredited college/university and one year of paraprofessional experience in a library or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. The ability to speak and write Spanish and to become a credible resource to our Latino patrons is also required. General Statement of Duties: The Reference Assistant performs routine, basic reference and readers advisory duties at any of the public service reference desks (children's, young adult, and adult) as well as electronic and telephone reference. This member of the Readers Services Division will be the lead worker in providing assistance to the public on computer applications and problem solving. This position requires work throughout the week, primarily on weekends and evenings.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to: *Provide timely and accurate answers to patron's reference, readers' advisory and referral questions using appropriate reference techniques; *Assist patrons in use of library materials, electronic media, and databases; Refer more complex and difficult questions to librarians. *Assist patrons with common computer applications (including Microsoft Office Suite), email and troubleshooting computer problems throughout the Readers Services Division. *Assist with or delivering computer skills instruction to individual patrons and in Library-sponsored classes.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of basic library systems and library resources, both print and electronic. Ability to locate library materials and use the library catalog; ability to operate personal computers and other library equipment; troubleshoot computer problems, and utilize commonly-used computer programs; ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms. Possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to effectively deal with the public. Possess strong leadership abilities.

Library Services Supervisor
General Statement of Duties: This is a supervisory position responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the Adult Services unit and adult reference operation within the Readers Services Division. Those supervised include one senior librarian, six adult reference librarians, two reference assistants and one lead support staff member who handles Interlibrary Loans, proctoring, and other advanced activities in support of the Adult services staff and programs.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluations; knowledge of principles and practices of professional library Operations; knowledge of customer service practices and procedures. Ability to supervise and implement a comprehensive library adult services program; ability to meet deadlines; ability to write and communicate effectively; ability to supervise, train, evaluate, and schedule staff; ability to design, implement and monitor a complex work schedule; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

LSSI has an immediate opening for a Branch Manager at the White City Branch Library. The Branch Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the library, including staff supervision, providing reference and reader's advisory assistance to the public, planning programming for children, teens and adults, providing general help with computer use, and other duties as assigned.
Job Status: 20 hours per week - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
Salary: Dependent upon experience
Qualifications: The ability to lead and direct staff, familiarity with public library organization and services, sound organizational skills, good computer knowledge/skills, knowledge of the community and its needs, plus outstanding customer service and communication skills. Spanish fluency strongly preferred. Position Open Until Filled.
