I'm going indulge in some "viewers' advisory" and suggest that the
patron may also enjoy "The Irish R.M."

This sounds like Upstairs Downstairs.

It was set at the beginning of the 20th century, and the woman was the
wealthy one. But the hubby was an MP and they married over the
objections of her parents. The last name (Bellamy) begins with "B" which
sounds a lot like a P.

Revealing that I have any familiarity with such matters can only
decimate my street cred....

I have a patron looking for a BBC series that ran sometime in the 1970s,
although the series actually took place sometime in the 19th Century (it
was fictional, not based on real life). She said it was about a guy from
a wealthy family who wanted to marry for love but his family considered
the girl beneath him and his family forced him to marry someone else. He
became a member of parliament. She thinks the TV series ran for several
seaons. She also thinks the guy's last name and/or the title of the
series started with a "P". Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks
for your help!
