The Sweet Home Public Library is seeking a part time Library Assistant which performs various duties with the Library requiring strong public service skills and a general knowledge of library operations. Work involves responsibility for routine circulation, shelf maintenance, clerical and cataloging functions using automated circulation system, and the processing of Library materials. Duties include charging books in and out, shelving library materials, inputting data, and answering the telephone. This position is also invested with making library clerical decisions. Applicant must have the computer skills to assist patrons with online searches, printing and word processing and have the ability to operate an automated circulation system. The work requires the employee have some knowledge, skill and ability in library clerical functions and who can work independently. Evening and weekend hours are required. East Asian Cataloging Team Leader

Duties and Responsibilities: Manages East Asian cataloging while performing high-level original and complex copy cataloging of print and electronic materials in East Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) according to international standards, with a focus on Chinese materials in all formats. Supplies LC Subject Headings and call numbers; verifies all types of access points in catalog records and edits to conform to authorized forms and creates original authority records. Provides training and timely feedback to supervisees and conducts annual performance appraisals. Provides leadership to catalogers performing cataloging for resources in languages that do not use the Latin script, such as Slavic languages, Hebrew and Arabic. Coordinates matters of cataloging policy and practice for non-Latin cataloging in all formats. Represents the Library in policy discussions and deliberations related to non-Latin script cataloging at the regional and national level. Maintains policies on non-Latin script cataloging. Develops local workflow procedures as appropriate. Contributes to the advancement of the Libraries' mission through service on local and national committees, and continuing professional development, including, but not limited to, conference attendance, presentations and publications. Reports to the Head, Collection Services.

The Library System of Lancaster County is a federated system with 14 independent member libraries, three branches and a bookmobile, which serve the over 529,000 residents of Lancaster County. Established in April 1987, the Library System provides countywide services and cooperative programs to support member libraries in meeting the diverse needs of community residents. The executive director reports to the board of directors of the LSLC to provide leadership for the system. The successful candidate will work with the board to lead the LSLC through organizational change with a focus on acting in the best interests of the system and each of its 14 independent member libraries.
