Subject: Conference for Boys 12-15

“IT’S A GUY THING”

Day-long Conference for and about Boys

Pacific University’s Center for Gender Equity will host a conference for
boys, ages 12 through 15.

Date: April 29, 2016

Time: 8:15 am – 3:30 pm

Place: Pacific University

           Burlingham Conference Room

           Forest Grove, Oregon

For brochure, Parental Consent Form, and map go to pacificu.edu/cge

This day-long conference bring boys together to check out college life,
meet role-models from various professions, and explore what it means to be
male in today’s society—and all in a fun and supportive environment.

The conference includes an opening event, six small group sessions where
the boys hear from men in a variety of professions: an artist, a police
officer, a nurse, an athlete, and an author. These sessions are followed by
lunch, activities, and a panel of male undergraduates who will answer the
boys’ questions about college life. Finally, there is a free “It’s a Guy
Thing” gift for all participants.

The conference is designed to engage boys in critical thought, to encourage
them to begin thinking about college, and to provide exposure to several
male role-models who will help the boys think about what it means to be
male in today’s society.

There is an optional Parents’ Meeting at 8:30 to 9:15 where parents will
get information on the events of the day and learn about the research on
boys’ development and why a conference such as “It’s a Guy Thing” is
beneficial.
