ALA has made it possible for those of you not attending ALA Midwinter to be
a part of this Town Hall meeting. I hope many of you will take advantage
of this opportunity
--------------------------------------
Library professionals from across America and the world will gather in
Atlanta, Georgia for discussions on the future of library service,
technology trends, advocacy, information policy, professional and
leadership development, intellectual freedom and diversity, equity and
inclusion. These discussions are part of the American Library Association’s
(ALA) Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits, held from Jan. 20 – 24, 2017 at the
Georgia World Congress Center.
Over the last months, ALA members have expressed their concerns regarding
the effects of the recent election on the positions and advocacy efforts of
the Association. In order to continue this dialog, the ALA Executive Board
invites ALA Council and the ALA membership to join a Town Hall style
conversation on Sunday, January 22 from 9:30-11:00am in the GWCC Thomas
Murphy Ballroom 3-4, immediately following the Council meeting I agenda.
Although this session follows the first meeting of ALA’s governing council,
all interested conference attendees are welcome to join this professionally
facilitated session to share your feedback, concerns, ideas and aspirations
for ALA.
Because libraries are a microcosm of the larger society, they play an
important role in the communities that they serve and must seek to provide
an inclusive environment where all are treated with respect and dignity.
ALA wants to hear from you, as the strength of our organization is its
diverse membership which reflects multiple viewpoints.
American Libraries will be streaming the town hall live at
https://www.facebook.com/amlibraries.
