[Libs-Or] Library Pay Phones

In the library I was at in Arizona, we put a free phone in the lobby for local calls and set it up with a timer that disconnected the call after three minutes. We put signs up to let people know that it was a courtesy phone that had a three minute limit. Some people would make multiple calls in a row, but at least it did not tie up our front desk phone. It worked great for the kids who were calling for a ride home, someone calling for a taxi, etc.

We have been notified that the pay phone in our lobby is going to be removed by the carrier. They are getting out of the pay phone business. Previously we have directed most people to this phone in order not to tie up our phone lines. What do other libraries do? Does anyone NOT provide a phone option for patrons? How do you monitor/limit time?
