Health and Wellness Resource Center is Getting a Makeover!

[GaleHealth]A new interface was introduced to the Health and Wellness Resource Center on September 28, 2017. The interface will align with other Gale databases and offer similar tools, including integration with Google and Microsoft. Other enhancements include four main topic portals addressing common consumer health questions: Diseases and Conditions; Drugs; Diagnostics and Tests; and Therapies, Treatments, and Surgeries. This is a great resource to promote during Health Literacy Month in October. This resource is available to Oregon libraries through the Statewide Database Licensing Program<http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/Pages/technology/sdlp/index.aspx>. If you have any questions, please contact Arlene Weible<mailto:arlene.weible at state.or.us> (503-378-5020).

State Library Launches Online Survey for CE Needs Assessment

[Survey]The State Library of Oregon is assessing the continuing education/professional development (CE/PD) needs of the Oregon library community. We want to hear from as many library directors, managers, supervisors, and staff members as possible so we can best support Oregon libraries. We have contracted with Infopeople to conduct a multi-method study that includes focus groups, interviews, and an online survey.

This online survey includes general questions about learning preferences and also seeks to prioritize a wide variety of training topics. Your responses will help us better understand your needs. Thanks in advance for your help!

All your responses to this survey will be kept completely confidential. Quotes may be used but will not be attributed to any individual. This survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Questions marked by an asterisk (*) require a response. You may receive this survey invite multiple times but we ask that you only respond once.

Deadline for responding is 5:00 pm (PT) Friday, October 13, 2017. Survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ORLIB

Again, thank you for your time - we are looking forward to receiving your input!

State Library Renews Free Access to Edge Initiative for Public Libraries

[Edge]The State Library of Oregon is pleased to announce that it is once again sponsoring participation in the Edge Initiative through June 30, 2018 to allow public libraries the opportunity to assess your technology, communicate its impact and plan for the future - all in an effort to support the local economy, workforce, lifelong learning, and strong communities.

The State Library's commitment to ensuring digital inclusion and equity for communities throughout Oregon is a powerful step to enrich and advance people's lives. We strongly encourage public libraries to complete the assessment and create a plan that will improve technology services and programs for your community.

Near the end of this fiscal year, the State Library will be evaluating the level of participation and effectiveness of Edge in Oregon to determine if we should continue funding statewide access or if we need to come up with a different subscription model. As an incentive, libraries who complete the assessment and develop a plan will be eligible to participate in a technology reimbursement program. More information about this opportunity will be forthcoming.
