[Libs-Or] Launching Libraries 2020

According to OCLC’s “Awareness to Funding” report, libraries have lost
almost 20% of voter support across the country in the last 10 years alone.

This is a significant problem considering over 90% of library funding comes
from the will of the local voter or local legislators.

Right now over 40% of Americans are likely to vote against their public
library's funding initiative.

If this trend continues to over 50% of voters in the next few years, then
we'll see libraries lose campaigns, elections, and funding at an alarming
rate. We'll also lose the financial support of political leaders and
legislators.

That's we're launching Libraries2020.org as the first and largest national
voter engagement campaign in order to help more American voters learn about
the value and importance of our nation's great libraries.

We launched on Giving Tuesday in order to raise the funding we need to
reach every voter in the country with a pro-library message throughout 2020.

We know that we can reach 1,000 American voters for every $10 that we raise
and there are approximately 160 million registered voters. That means we
need to raise at least 2 million dollars in the next few months to achieve
that goal. But our short term goal is just $250,000. Can you help today.

That’s why I am reaching out today to ask for your donation at
libraries2020.org/donate to build and propel the Libraries 2020 campaign.

Besides voter outreach, your donations will allow us to:

   - Make direct contributions to local library campaigns and elections
   - Provide pro-bono tools and resources to libraries for political
   initiatives
   - Support or oppose legislation that impact libraries’ ability to serve
   their communities

Thank you for your support!
