The Newport Public Library team is looking for an enthusiastic bilingual (Spanish/English) Librarian 1 to help us share with the community all that the library has to offer. This 40 hr/week position is an entry-level professional library position.  This position provides assistance to library patrons at all library service desks including reference, circulation and children’s desks.  The position requires knowledge of the principles and practices of public libraries.  Librarian I works under the supervision of a Supervising Librarian.

 The essential job functions and examples of duties performed include:

  *   Provides reference information and reader’s advisory services, instructs patrons in the use of library resources, including digital searching.
  *   Works regularly scheduled hours at reference, circulation, and children’s desks
  *   Teaches patrons techniques for successful information retrieval on the internet and other in-house databases
  *   Attends professional meetings and maintains membership in the Oregon Library Association
  *   Attends workshops necessary to keep current with modern library technology
  *   Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with colleagues, supervisors and patrons
  *   Responsibilities may include database selection, collection development, adult programming, web design and maintenance, and social media marketing
  *   Performs other duties as required
