Friends and Colleagues,

Please join us next Friday, February 21, at 10:00am for the third presentation in the 2019-2020 OSULP LFA Seminar Series!
Assessing the value of Natural History Museums and their professional curation in the age of scientometrics
Presenter: Dr. Christopher Marshall, Curator, Oregon State Arthropod Collection
Description: For centuries, scientific repositories, also known as natural history museums, have served a foundational role in the natural sciences. They provide the empirical basis for observational and descriptive research that spans the globe and reaches out into the solar system. This talk will focus primarily on biological research collections such as the Oregon State Arthropod Collection here at OSU and discuss how the specimens, specimen data and curatorial investment that goes into building and maintaining these resources is reflected (or not reflected) in the scholarly work that relies on them, and make the argument that perhaps re-envisioned museum management and citation practices in the sciences might better reflect the scholarly impact these collections and curation have in 21st century science.
10:00 am-11:30am
Willamette East/West
