Good point Karen, we just wanted no one to be able to sit at a machine not wiped just before. As with all things Covid there are many playbooks!

Just saying, having the patron log in with their actual library card does give a contact number in case tracing becomes necessary. We also collect name and email when they make an appointment.

That's exactly what we did in Newberg so we could do a keyboard / mouse wipe down between uses. We changed the allowed string length in EnvisionWare to allow 10 digits not more. This locked out full card numbers but not the guest passes.

Hi, Jim,

Staff will help folks on a very limited basis by distancing and essentially talking through questions. Everyone has to wear a face covering according to whatever the latest OHA guidelines require, and enforcement is the biggest problem/headache for us. We give everyone a one-time-use login so we have control and can turn off a workstation if someone doesn't follow the rules; we disabled using a library card number to log in. Our desks are distanced but not shielded, and we wipe down stations between use. We have had less computer use since we reopened.

Hello,

We are currently exploring approaches to providing public computer access to patrons and we are seeking the wisdom of libraries currently doing so in a restricted COVID-19 environment.

How are you managing hands-on support for patrons with their computer sessions? Are you simply maintaining standard distancing precautions, installing shields, and enforcing masking protocols? Are staff working hands-on with patrons when necessary? Are you remoting in and taking over patron computers with a software solution? Have you developed other procedures you have found effective?

Any insights you can share would be most helpful.

Thank you.
