Metadata Basics | Tuesday, November 16, 2021

  *   Do you catalog or plan digital projects? Wish to better understand the role of metadata and how it works? In addition to defining metadata, this workshop will cover the purposes and functions of metadata, list the components of a metadata infrastructure and keys to successfully launching a new metadata standard and more.

Metadata Standards and Types | Wednesday, November 17, 2021

  *   Discover how metadata standards are created and explore several commonly in use today. Some included topics are: XML DTDs and schemas, types and examples of metadata currently in use today and controlling access to resources.

Customization and Exchange, Transformation and Migration | Thursday, November 18, 2021

  *   Our third workshop covers the processes by which institutions customize existing metadata standards, exchange and harvest metadata, transform metadata from one standard to another and migrate metadata to a newer standard.

Metadata Relationships | Tuesday, November 23, 2021

  *   The final workshop focuses on the role of expressing relationships in metadata to enhance resource discovery. Upon completion of this workshop, students should be able to: Describe the role of relationships in enabling resource acquisition and identify technologies for articulating relationships in metadata, and assess the current status and potential of BibFrame as a replacement for MARC.
