Procurement Scams
Scammers are working to take advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic in a variety of ways—from soliciting fraudulent donations to offering fake treatments and cures. Governments in particular should be aware of fraud related to procurement, especially the purchase of COVID‑19–related medical equipment and supplies. Scammers are selling counterfeit products and promising equipment and supplies they do not have access to. Governments should exercise caution and perform all appropriate due diligence when purchasing such equipment and supplies.

The FBI advises to be on the lookout for suspicious activity, including the following:

  *   Unusual payment terms
  *   Last-minute price changes
  *   Last-minute excuses for delay in shipment
  *   Unexplained source of bulk supply

If you have information of suspicious activity by a vendor, or believe you were a victim of a scam or attempted fraud involving COVID-19, report it:

  *   Submit a tip to the FBI at tips.fbi.gov/<https://tips.fbi.gov/>
  *   If it’s a cyber scam, submit a complaint to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov<http://www.ic3.gov>
  *   Contact the National Center for Disaster Fraud Hotline at 866.720.5721 or via e-mail at disaster at leo.gov<mailto:disaster at leo.gov>
