Marine Board Decides to Keep Existing Rule for Siletz River

In a three to one decision, the Oregon State Marine Board voted to retain the existing rule language prohibiting jet motors from operating above Morgan's Park boat ramp on the Siletz River in Lincoln County. The vote came at the conclusion of a second public hearing on June 25 at the Marine Board office in Salem.
The Board approved opening rulemaking at the March 2013 Board meeting to address whether or not changes in boating technology and boating behavior warranted modifying the rule to prohibit the operation of all motors greater than 10 horsepower, both jet and propeller, upstream of Morgan's Park boat ramp.
Based on staff recommendations, public comments, and testimony received at two public hearings, the Board voted to maintain the rule language that has been in place since 1987 that prohibits only the use of jet pump motors above Morgan's Park boat ramp.
