Marine Board Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Rulemaking for Willamette River

              The Oregon State Marine Board is accepting written comment on a proposed rule that would move the western deadline of the wake-enhancing device exclusion zone on the Willamette River.
            Currently, OAR 250-020-0032 and 250-020-0385 prohibit the operation of motorboats in excess of 5 mph slow no-wake within 100 feet of private docks, boathouses, or moorages legally permitted by the Department of State Lands and prohibit the use of wake enhancing devices on the Willamette River from the Hwy 219 Bridge at river mile 48.5 to the upper end of Willow Island at river mile 31.5.  The proposed amendment to the rules would move the west end of the slow no-wake area and wake enhancing device exclusion zone downstream 2.5 miles to begin at river mile 46, Champoeg State Park.

A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, beginning at 7 p.m. at George Fox University, Hoover Academic Building, Room 102 located at 414 N. Meridian St., in Newberg.  Written comments will be accepted until September 30 by 5 p.m.  Written comments can be submitted via email to osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us<file:///T:\Releases\osmb.rulemaking@state.or.us> or by U.S. mail to June LeTarte, Rules Coordinator, 435 Commercial Street NE, Suite 400, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309-5056.  Comments via telephone cannot be accepted.
