[OYAN] Stumper - YA Book, mindreading teens

Hi!

I've got a teen looking for a young adult novel with a red cover, part of a series (or at least with a companion novel), about a teen girl and boy who can hear each other's voices in their minds, even before they meet in an elevator. The teen girl is the main character. Sounds like there might be some romance and maybe a little suspicion of witchcraft from the other characters about the teens in the book. The teen reader cannot remember a title or author. Help!

We tried NoveList and it is not: Haven by Cook, The Ask and the Answer by Ness, or Mesmerize by Arthur.

Thanks a bunch for any ideas I can run past this teen reader!
