I just read the this article ALA's Young Adult Library Services Association's blog. Oregon libraries are moving toward outcome based evaluation and it can be difficult to wrap our heads around it. This article does a great job of explaining it in a very different way, not even using the term 'outcome' until the last sentence.
Why is this especially of interest to teen librarians? Let's face it, most of you just don't have the numbers that children's services do. You don't get the funding or lots of program slots. You're more frequently asked to justify many of the things you do, especially planning time when only 6 teens show up. Outcome based evaluation levels the numbers playing field because it's about what people get out of the program, it's not about how many people showed up. It's how you justify what you do to get the support you need to do it!
