[OYAN] Fall Programs

Aimee,
I'm so glad you asked this question and to learn what others are doing. I echo the sentiments about virtual events... they're not as engaging, interesting, or as fun for us/me or the teens and tend to garner smaller audiences. My library has chosen to not offer anything in person in September (except outdoor storytimes in the park across the street, weather permitting), and I expect that to continue through the fall at least. They've also chosen to take each month as it comes, so there's limited opportunities to plan ahead. There's a chance of doing outreach in the middle schools; I'm waiting to see what the district decides about visitors.
At this point, thinking about programming is hard because of the limitations and concerns about the Delta variant (my own and, I imagine, those of community members). I've had pretty good luck offering Kahoot trivia virtually, with ARCs as prizes, and am considering some sort of kit option. My colleague uses Jamboard to do virtual pictionary games with good success when she meets with her tween leaders. My teen advisors meet next week, so we'll talk about what we want to focus on; historically, they planned for events and helped set them up each month.
What are you all focusing on/working on with your teen leaders/council/group/advisors? My colleague who works with our tweens has been making booklists and taking art/book review submissions from her tween leaders for a tween e-newsletter, which has been fun. I'm feeling a little rudderless and struggling to offer a meaningful experience for the teen advisors especially... would love to hear how others are tackling this! And, about what's motivating you right now? 🙂 Wishing there were opportunities for us to gather in person!!
Thanks all! Hoping you're hanging in during these (continued) strange and scary times!

Per the just-announced statewide mask mandate, we will require masks (City of Beaverton announced our mask mandate maybe a week ago?). I'm also doing registration for in-person so that people know what the expectations are. Added bonus for registration: can easily contact them in case we need to cancel.
However, I can't imagine that we'll require proof of vaccination.
And I hear you, Mark. Virtual programs with teens has been especially tough.

I'm doing some lowkey craft ones in person. I wanted to do a gaming tournament with low capacity but I decided against it. I am also hoping to be able to old TLC meetings in person, but who knows what things will look like come September. As MacKenzie said, we'll be requiring masks. I just have no desire for more virtual programs since they don't seem to work particularly well with the age group. I thought my needle felt cactus program was a happy exception this summer though.

We are only doing virtual this fall. Lots of craft and kit pickups, fewer live offerings. We have tried some outdoor activities that resulted in poor attendance.
Our school board just voted to consider making masks optional in opposition to the state mandate. I'm wondering if anyone else has this challenge, and how it'll impact your school visits?

Hello!
I am doing in-person programs in the fall (and have been this summer). I
have a Teen Council that meets and we are doing a Magic tournament and some
movies and trivia and game nights.
I do have the good luck to have a large garden with seating and space
attached to my library. And everyone is encouraged to wear masks as they
are comfortable.
I have a larger program at the end of October that I'm crossing my fingers
for.
