Calling all youth book recommendation experts - 📚

We are putting together a collection of activities to go along with books
(to be read aloud) that each feature one of the Employability Skills or
Traits
<https://www.oregonemployabilityskills.org/educators-community-partners/exploration-curriculum>
in the Oregon Employability Skills curricula
<https://www.oregonemployabilityskills.org/> (see list of skills below) and
we need your help for book recommendations.
*On a side note, the lessons in the free curricula would be great to use as
youth activities in public or school libraries, so be sure to take a look.*

We will be creating activities and book lists for four levels of
curricula (*currently,
only the curricula for grades 6-9
<https://www.oregonemployabilityskills.org/educators-community-partners/exploration-curriculum>
and
grades 8 and above
<https://www.oregonemployabilityskills.org/educators-community-partners/work-readiness-curriculum>
is on the Oregon Employability Skills website with the others coming out
later this summer and all will be free for anyone to use*):

   - Grades 1-2
   - Grades 3-4
   - Grade 5
   - Grades 6-9

*We would love to get some book recommendations for each of the four
curriculum levels that are EXCELLENT and engaging read-alouds from which we
can create fun learning activities to reinforce the following 10 essential
skills (below). *

We are especially needing recommendations for some good read-alouds around
Digital Literacy, Empathy and/or Social Diversity Awareness, but we're
happy to get recommendations for any of the other skills listed as well.
Books can be fiction or nonfiction as long as they are extremely engaging
read-alouds. They could be chapter-books but picture books appropriate for
each grade level are slightly prefered.
Activities will be used by educators, afterschool & summer programs,
homeschoolers, libraries, parents, etc. to reinforce these skills.

*Please email any great book recommendations you have off the top of your
head (or any book lists you have featuring the following skills) to
monica.mcqueen at oregonask.org <monica.mcqueen at oregonask.org> *and include
the skill(s) featured in the book(s) and the recommended age levels if
possible*.*

Books we don't end up selecting to create related activities could still be
featured in the "other recommended books" lists for each curriculum /
skill.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Don't hesitate to contact cherie.clark at wesd.org for more information about
the OES curricula or if you would like to try to schedule some training for
a group at your library (parents, educators, youth programs staff, etc.)
online or in-person about how to access and use the free Oregon
