FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
APRIL 2nd DEADLINE APPROACHING
The deadline is fast approaching for a unique opportunity to advance your
library and information science skills related to improving services to and
engagement with active, older adults. Full scholarships will be awarded to
all successful applicants and a robust line-up of national experts,
including Stanford University professor Laura Carstensen, author of A Long
Bright Future; Paul Nussbaum, author of Save Your Brain; and Robert Atchley,
author of Spirituality and Aging, will serve as Fellowship faculty helping
to inspire your thinking about how to transform the ways in which libraries
connect with Baby Boomers and the generations of older adults yet to come.
The California State Library, Idaho Commission for Libraries, Oregon State
Library, and Washington State Library have partnered to offer this year-long
Fellowship that will provide continuing education scholarships (full
tuition, hotel and travel expenses covered) for selected public library
staff and professionals. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Institute for
Museum and Library Services, Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program, up
to 100 qualified applicants will be selected to participate. Fellows will be
introduced to a new framework for serving and engaging adults ages 50+ that
both promotes productive aging and establishes libraries as centers of
lifelong learning and civic engagement.

for submission, including a Letter of Library Commitment, is April 2, 2010.
Selection of Fellows will be announced June 1, 2010.
