Hello! This is a reminder that the deadline to complete the Oregon Summer Reading Survey in Monday, November 8th. The original email describing the survey is at the end of this email.

Here is a link to the survey: http://library.state.or.us/services/surveys/survey.php?sid=865.

Answers to common questions regarding the survey and related topics:

* What about the 2011 summer reading manuals?

You all have ordered your 2011 summer reading manuals. They will be distributed at the CSD Fall Workshop this Saturday. Those of you unable to pick up your manual will receive it via Orbis Cascade Courier or USPS by the end of December. The CSD Summer Reading Co-Chairs distribute the manuals. They are Paige Bentley-Flannery, paigeb at dpls.lib.or.us<mailto:paigeb at dpls.lib.or.us>, and Josie Hanneman, josieh at dpls.lib.or.us<mailto:josieh at dpls.lib.or.us>.

* I thought the State Library paid for the summer reading manuals and certificates?

All the items ordered through this survey are free to your library. These items are paid for by Library Services and Technology Act funds (manuals), the Oregon Education Association (certificates), and the Office of the State Treasurer (sweepstakes materials).

* How do I order my other 2011 summer reading materials and incentives?
Create an account on the CSLP website to access the online Upstart catalog at: http://www.cslpreads.org/order.html

* What is the Oregon summer reading sweepstakes?

The Oregon summer reading sweepstakes was the 2010 Dive into Saving for College contest to win $1,000 Oregon College Savings Plan scholarships. In addition, $500 goes to the libraries indicated on the winning entry forms. The name of this will change every year to reflect the summer reading theme, therefore in general we have been referring to it as the Oregon summer reading sweepstakes.

* Who won Dive into Saving for College?
The 15 winners were notified the first week in September as indicated in the sweepstakes rules. It took several weeks to verify the eligibility of the winners and draw up individualized Oregon College Savings Plan scholarship paper work. The paper work was mailed to winners in early October, and it is due to the Office of the State Treasurer November 8th. Included in the paper work are permission release forms. As soon as we have the winners permission to release their information we will announce them publicly.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you,
Katie

Subject: [R2R-OR] Summer Reading Survey

Dear Library Directors and Ready to Read Key Contacts,

The annual summer reading survey is now available online at: http://library.state.or.us/services/surveys/survey.php?sid=865. The deadline for completing this survey is Monday, November 8. Please submit only one survey per library/library system.

This survey is more important than ever!
The survey has been revised to reduce the number of summer reading surveys in the future. As always this survey asks for your summer reading statistics. In addition this is your library's opportunity to:

  * order your 2012 summer reading manual.
  * order your 2011 summer reading certificates.
  * order materials for the 2011 summer reading sweepstakes.
  * suggest future summer reading themes and slogans.
  * provide feedback regarding the Collaborative Summer Library Program materials and resources.
  * provide feedback regarding summer reading in general (summer reading certificates and the new sweepstakes).

This means that all the critical things you need to do regarding summer reading are all in this one survey. It also means that this survey is fairly long so you or the staff person you delegate to take the survey will need about 20 minutes to complete it.

I recommend that the person delegated to take this survey gets your library's summer reading statistics and feedback on the following questions from other library staff before they sit down to take the survey or it will take significantly longer than 20 minutes to complete.

  * What items included in the CSLP summer reading manual did you use most?
  * What items would you like to see added to the CSLP summer reading manual in the future?
  * What resources on the CSLP website did you use most?
  * What resources would you like added to the CSLP website in the future?
  * What items did you like best from Upstart's summer reading catalog?
  * What items would you like to see added to Upstart's summer reading catalog in the future?
  * Please provide feedback on the CSLP and/or Upstart summer reading materials. Oregon's CSLP representatives will take this feedback to the 2011 CSLP annual meeting.
  * Please recommend up to 5 children's slogans for the 2013 theme 'underground'.
  * Please recommend up to 5 children's artists for 2013 theme 'underground'.
  * Please recommend up to 5 teen slogans for the 2013 theme 'underground'.
  * Please recommend up to 5 teen artists/graphic designers for the 2013 theme 'underground'.
  * Please recommend up to 5 adult slogans for the 2013 theme 'underground'.
  * Please recommend up to 5 themes for the 2014 summer reading program-keep in mind that theme will be the same for children, teens, and adults so it should be broad.
  * Please provide any additional feedback regarding summer reading. This feedback will be read by the CSD and OYAN Executive Board members and State Library staff. To learn more about summer reading in Oregon visit: http://www.oregon.gov/OSL/LD/youthsvcs/oregon.srp.certificate.shtml

I will also send an announcement on the kids-lib, OYAN, and libs-or email lists to inform them that link to the summer reading survey was emailed to you.

Please remember, this survey is new so there may be some bugs to work out. Let me know if you have any questions or need help with the survey.

There should only be two more surveys regarding summer reading this year. One to vote on the Oregon Summer Reading Certificates and one to vote on the future CSLP summer reading theme and slogans. These two surveys will go out on the kids-lib, OYAN, and libs-or email lists for library staff to take individually if they want to. They won't contain anything critical.

Thank you,
Katie Anderson
