Thanks to everybody who has called with a question on the Public Library Statistical Report! Don't hesitate to pick up that phone - Call Early, Call Often!

[multicolor flashing star.bmp]Firstly, ODLC is able to confirm the numbers for the standard statewide Library2Go set. The data were also sent through other channels, but just in case, I've copied the questions from the survey and their answers below:

[*] Next - There are some questions that have come in about circulation:

First-time circulation vs. renewals Part 6, 6.27-6.38
This is an effort initiated by Oregon public library directors to get more detail about circulation for better comparisons. First-time circulation is the first time a patron checks out an item, new or old. This is not the same as when a brand-new book is checked out for the first time. For example, Ima Patron checks out a worn copy of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. That's counted as a first-time circulation. When she goes online to ask to keep it longer, that counts as a renewal. When Joe Public checks out that same copy of the book months later, that is a first-time circulation. I also advise that if renewals are made online and can't be assigned to a particular consortia member, the consortia have a formula to distribute those renewals among members.

Renewals 6.28, 6.30
If your circulation system cannot separate first-time circulation from renewals, list all items as first-time circulation (6.27, 6.29)

Circulation unable to break into adult or children's materials 6.31,6.32
Use either 6.27-6.30 OR 6.31-6.32, but not all of them. If there are things that don't neatly fall into either adult (which includes YA) or children's materials, put them in with adult materials.

Circulation of interlibrary loans received to the library's patrons
Include received interlibrary loan items with other circulation questions as they apply. Do not count books checked out to other libraries for their patrons in the circulation count.

[*] Lastly, I am working with Bibliostat programmers to resolve a problem with 7.4 and 7.5. If you get an edit message on those items, a temporary fix is to use a STATE note (the middle tab on the notepad). We should have this fixed soon, and it will not necessitate you going back to do anything.

I will be adding some of this to the FAQ, which is at: http://libdev.plinkit.org/faqs-for-state-statistical-reports.
