Hi folks,

As usual, there's way too many folks to shoutout, a good problem to have. Last week, I visited a lot of folks in Eastern Oregon. I continue to appreciate how much awesome work is taking place even in the teeniest of libraries - Adams, I'm looking at you. Adams librarian Amanda often has 40 kids hanging out after school in her hallway of a library that is cheerful, bright, and a happy place to be!

I also want to highlight all the folks who came to this Tuesday's early literacy conversation with Oregon Kitchen Table to share about the work they're doing with families - There's too many to name here, but I so appreciate all the perspectives you brought and the work you are doing every day to support families in building early literacy with their littles. This work really matters! A couple times in the conversation some of you mentioned how small this work is, but I really want to challenge all of us with how BIG it is. In my last library, working with mostly military folks, the library was really a lifeline as folks entered a new community for the tenth or fifteenth or twentieth time. The connections they made in storytimes and other programming deeply mattered to the families and kids participating. The connections you are building with your storytimes matter no less. I had some additional feedback<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1toQCg2yKqZsw_dpqtuwq7gwkcLgyZ71H/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107160907715728308747&rtpof=true&sd=true> for the Kitchen Table folks if you are interested. I know some of you took valuable time away from other responsibilities, thank you again for participating.

If you attended this week's conversation with Oregon Kitchen Table, or attended CSD's recent Early Literacy Inclusive Storytime training and would like to talk more about what we learned, or would like to touch base about some of the early literacy strategies or topics discussed, (or if you didn't attend either but want to share how early literacy is working at your library), please join myself and Emily West, CSD past chair, North Plains Early Literacy librarian next Friday the 19th from 1-2pm for a drop-in discussion. Zoom information is below. Thanks for everything you're doing and I hope to see some of you next week! Have a good weekend! Best, Greta
