[Sora] Request for Reference Library Recommendations

To get a good grasp on multivariate regression, I recommend Peter Kennedy, "A Guide to Econometrics." The latest version is 6E, but you can get away with an older one. It's very well written, and is readable and intuitive, unlike many econometrics books. It won't tell you how to work on the technical side as much, but will help with the foundations.

For SQL, in addition to books mentioned already, I would recommend using a program like Treehouse (which I've used for SQL) or CodeAcademy (haven't used, but have heard good things). They are web-based tutorials/classrooms, and provide a workspace for learning code and working on projects. If someone is looking to learn for the first time, or even just brush up on SQL, I'd send them to one of these sites.

Subject: [Sora] Request for Reference Library Recommendations

Good Afternoon SORA Members,

I am a Research Analyst with the Department of Justice, Division of Child Support. We are in the process of building a research analyst reference library for our team.

Given the expansive body of knowledge of SORA members, we wanted to reach out and ask: what are your recommendations for specific titles to add to our library?

We are particularly interested in obtaining references for the following areas:

§ SQL training materials, and

§ References for quantitative analysis (descriptive and inferential) including multivariate regression

Any recommendation of texts, manuals, handbooks, etc. from introductory to advanced level would be most appreciated.

Thank you all in advance,
