Requests like these are fantastic! I've gotten a bunch of great references from this thread.

I offer a two-part suggestion for future requests like this one:

1. ask for private responses

2. follow up with a summary of responses, list of requested information, or other digest of the responses distributed to the entire list

I have seen this method work extremely well on other lists. Cheers!

Love this link Basics of statistical analyses - http://davidakenny.net/doc/statbook/kenny87.pdf. I am in a Doctorate program and have had a few stats classes. This PDF breaks things down in a nice, digestible way.

Thanks for sharing!!

Lori

Hi Kayla,
My history includes database design & development, and I participate in SORA. I'm not a Research Analyst by title, but, have done data/information analysis for decades. Different database vendors develop (modified) SQL for their particular products. If you use Oracle Database or SQL Server Database your SQL will be variants. There is a generic SQL, but you most likely will benefit by asking your in-house DBA team what your primary databases are, and focus on them. For example, at ODOT we generally use Microsoft SQL Server, though we have a few Oracle databases as well. We have 1 DBA with years of Oracle expertise, the rest of the DBA/DA team focus primarily on SQL Server. At ODOT the staff should focus on Microsoft SQL Server based SQL. Your organization probably uses a primary Database Product, like (Microsoft) SQL Server as well.

If your office is basically a Microsoft based shop you should learn SQL Server Management Studio as an interface to your databases.

Hope that's helpful,

Subject: [Sora] Request for Reference Library Recommendations

Good Afternoon SORA Members,

I am a Research Analyst with the Department of Justice, Division of Child Support. We are in the process of building a research analyst reference library for our team.

Given the expansive body of knowledge of SORA members, we wanted to reach out and ask: what are your recommendations for specific titles to add to our library?

We are particularly interested in obtaining references for the following areas:

*  SQL training materials, and

* References for quantitative analysis (descriptive and inferential) including multivariate regression

Any recommendation of texts, manuals, handbooks, etc. from introductory to advanced level would be most appreciated.

Thank you all in advance,
