posit::conf(2024) is coming August 12-14 to Seattle, WA. As you might spot from the dates, we're trying out a new format this year with just one day of workshops. Along with the other changes we've made to reduce ticket prices, this will substantially decrease the total cost of conf and hopefully make it accessible to more folks.

But the focus of this post is on the talks and, more importantly, how you can speak at posit::conf! (You'll hear more about the program, how to register, and scholarships in future blog posts.)

We are looking for talks about:


  *   How you've used R or Python to solve a challenging problem.
  *   Projects and teams where R and Python live together in harmony.
  *   Your favorite R or Python package and how it makes life easier or unlocks new capabilities.
  *   Your techniques for teaching data science to help reach new domains and new audiences.
  *   Your broad reflections on data science, packages, code, and/or community.
  *   Anything else you think the Posit community would love to hear about!
  *   Talks are 20 minutes long and can be in-person or remote. Since we know we won't be able to accept all the wonderful talks that you submit, we'll also include a couple of sessions of lightning talks. These 5-minute talks are drawn from the main pool of talk proposals, i.e., there is no separate application process.

Speakers receive complimentary registration for the conference and needs-based travel assistance. All speakers also receive coaching from Articulation Inc. This means your past speaking experience isn't as important as the quality of your ideas: if you have an interesting topic, we encourage you to apply, regardless of your background, experience, or job title. Speakers in previous years have found the coaching to be both fun and very worthwhile; it's a great opportunity to polish your speaking skills while getting to know the other speakers.

To submit a talk, you'll need to create a 60-second video that introduces you and your proposed topic. In the video, you should tell us who you are, why your topic is important, and what the attendees will take away from it. If you're interested, please submit a proposal at pos.it/conf-talks-2024. Please mark your calendar to join us in Seattle, Washington, from Monday, August 12 to Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency.

Slightly different in format this year, posit::conf will begin with a single day of in-person hands-on workshops followed by two days of conference sessions, networking, and evening events. We also will again offer a hybrid format with live streamed content during our conference days.

Registration will open in the next few weeks, at which point we'll also share more information about our workshops, keynote speakers, and opportunity scholarships.

In the meantime, the call for talks is open, and the submission deadline has just been extended. Talks are 20 minutes long and can be in-person or remote. Submissions are due Monday, February 19th.
