Have you ever considered using AI simply as a problem solver? Most people think of the new Generative AI as a way to write reports, stories or essays. Some think of creating a new and unique image in seconds. Yes, you can do all that and many more things. We want to introduce you to another way to use AI with the free tool, ChatGPT. We're so excited about this because it has already saved us hours and hours of time ... solving problems!

For example, we …
·     Identified a great source for automotive repair that resulted in lower expense.
·     Improved the quality of a complaint letter to ensure a better response.
·     Converted an important lofty concept into a concrete idea.
·     Discovered info to keep us from falling prey to scam email.
·     Figured out travel costs for presenting at a conference.

And the list goes on! Once you have a mindset for using ChatGPT as an ongoing tool for resources and info, you'll have an ever-present assistant at your fingertips.

·     Once logged in, enter your search query in the area at the bottom of the page. (In the message area, type whatever you're looking for or want an analysis on.)

·     Once you have your first answer, you can drill down, asking additional questions to get more specific info. Type them in the message area. You don't have to restate the info you've already given. It will build upon it, especially if you ask it to.

·     Your chat history will appear in the left menu for future use and refinement. There doesn't appear to be a limit so all of you searches will be saved, unless you click on the three dots next to a Chat and choose Delete.

Strategies for Getting the Most Out of ChatGPT

1. Don't worry about getting the "question" right.

You don't have to agonize over how to appropriately write the topic or request in the tool. Just type key thoughts you want to include. Partial sentences are OK. Ideas that are vague are fine. No particular or logical order is required. Just jott all your thoughts down. Up to 3,000 words! Of course, you don't want anything that long, but now you know space is not really the issue. You will be amazed at how smart the AI tool is, giving you remarkable results.

2. Keep all the "questions" related to the same topic together. That means you

always go back to a previous inquiry and add more questions. When you think of a new topic, be sure to click on a new message block. It's very hard to find your info when it's buried with something unrelated.

3. Use the first couple of words as a topic description because that is what will show up on the left hand side menu. This habit makes it much easier to go back to use the info you've gathered at a previous time. You may even want to build on it later and get ever more detail on the topic.

4. Think "drill down". Ask a simple question, then build on it with another question. Tell the AI tool to consider the info in the previous question if you like. It instinctively assumes that everything in the one message block is related. So if you ask it to specifically build on what it's already found, it will.

Let's look at an example!

In ChatGPT

Problem: We want to have Tech-Talk Basic subscriptions purchased by senior living communities. We'd like to start with local residential companies so that we can reach out to them personally.

FIRST, In ChatGPT, we type: Senior Living Communities with club houses and activities in Colorado Springs. NOTE: You see we don't have to actually ask a question or use punctuation. Just type the ideas.

ChatGPT gave us this:

Colorado Springs offers several senior living communities with clubhouses and activities designed to keep residents engaged and active. Here are a few notable ones:

1. Liberty Heights

·     Description: A resort-style community offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care.
·     Amenities: Clubhouse, fitness center, swimming pool, dining options, walking paths.
·     Activities: Social events, fitness classes, hobby groups, and cultural outings.

(And so forth. It continues with six more places.)

SECOND, Drill Down: I realize that I'd like to know which places have a technology support program for their residents. So, in the same thread (as opposed to starting a new question/message thread), I type: which offer technology assistance or training.

ChatGPT gave us this:

Several active senior living communities in Colorado Springs offer technology assistance or training to help residents stay connected and engaged. Here are some options:

1. Liberty Heights

·     Description: A resort-style community with various living options.
·     Technology Assistance: Regular tech support sessions and workshops on using smartphones, tablets, and computers.

(And so forth. It continues with more specific info for each place. Then it provides the Summary below.)

These communities recognize the importance of technology in maintaining social connections and enhancing the quality of life for their residents. They offer a range of services to ensure seniors are comfortable and confident using modern technology.

THIRD, Drill Down Again: Now I want to know if pay for any services. So, I type: Do they offer programs using paid external providers?

ChatGPT gives us:

Several active senior living communities in Colorado Springs partner with external providers to offer specialized programs and services. These partnerships can enhance the range of activities and support available to residents. Here are some paid external programs:

External Programs:

·     Fitness and Wellness: Professional fitness trainers and wellness programs.

·     Cultural Programs: Guest speakers, musicians, and artists.

·     Educational Workshops: Experts and lecturers in various fields.

·     Healthcare Services: On-site medical services provided by external healthcare professionals.

Communication: Email

Follow a statement with a reinforcing one

When you're writing an email, asking a question or making a suggestion, it's considered best practice in the communication field to follow it with some type of reinforcing statement.

Why? Because it does a number of positive things. A follow up statement can:

1) Bring more attention to the initial statement.

2) Underscore your thought's importance.

3) Demonstrate the sincerity of your statement.

Examples:

·     "Let's go into Zoom so I can see what you're doing." [Follow with] "That would be very helpful."

·     "You could take 10 minutes to demonstrate how you create a poster in Canva." [Follow with] "The attendees will get a lot of value out of that."

·     "Thank you for helping this morning." [Follow with] "I really appreciate it!"
