Hi Paul,
Sure thing. I will be moderating the session and the plan is to have it be a short panel and then an open, casual discussion with the attendees for sharing and questions about how their libraries have adapted during COVID.
You, Andie and Jessica can share some specific examples of what worked and what didn't in your libraries (5 to 10 minutes each) to essentially get the discussion ball rolling. :)
Below is a refresher for what each of you mentioned in the poll we sent (since it's completely reasonable if you don't recall anymore!):
I could talk about the transitioning and expanding of virtual reference services to our students, faculty & staff. From creating a new patron facing FAQ, start offering text messaging to our chat service, using Zoom for virtual interactions .
Paul Victor pvictor at ewu.edu<mailto:pvictor at ewu.edu>
I'd like to discuss how the best practices for virtual reference services were constantly changing and adapting as a result of the COVID pandemic. The information needs of patrons in multiple contexts brought new challenges to practitioners as these practices evolved.
Andie Marshall andreariethmarshall at gmail.com<mailto:andreariethmarshall at gmail.com>
One of the most difficult parts about adapting our reference services to a completely virtual environment has been the additional emotional labor required. Stressed out students who have no other contact point with the university, frustrated professors trying to put articles online, and technology problems are all compounded with the difficulties of seeming friendly and approachable via chat and email reference. While a return to in-person service in the fall will alleviate some of these things, it might also just double all the work we need to do to serve patrons. What can we do to keep ourselves mentally well and in good shape to support our students, staff, and faculty?

I don't think there is any need for slides, unless you just want one up on the screen for your panel piece. Totally up to you.
Let me know if this answers all your questions.
Cheers,
Natalie

Hi Natalie,
Here's my profession bio. info. If you're looking for anything different, then let me know.
* Bio: Paul Victor is a librarian and professor at Eastern Washington University. He has been with the EWU Libraries since 2008 and currently serves as Reference Services Coordinator.
Yes, I'm ok with the session being recorded.
I'm trying to understand exactly how our session will go. Will there be a moderator who asks us questions and we respond with whatever topics we want on the theme of how academic libraries have been evolving during the pandemic? Do each of us make a few quick comments (or more details/explanation) & then it gets opened up to the audience for discussion/sharing? And are any aspects of academic libraries open for discussion? I am most familiar with reference & instructional aspects, but I know there are many other areas. I'm just trying to understand how things are going to work so that I can properly prepare/discuss.
Thanks,
Paul
