CAPP DRAFT Meeting Minutes
March 17, 2010
Participants: Cathryn Feral, UCAN Vista; Dede Henderson, Volunteer;
Diane Pietrzak, DHS; Elizabeth Droscher, Phoenix School; Karin Hardin,
Family Development Center & Healthy Start; Kelly Southern, Options
Counseling; Melody Ross, Boys & Girls Club; Sally Joyce, UVDN; Tonnie
Bernhardson, Rose Elementary School; Jennifer Barrett, Confederated
Tribe of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians; Dan Miley, CCF
Minutes from the February 17, 2010 meeting were amended to reflect the
CAPP account balance as $9,845.98. The amended minutes were approved.
Treasurer*s Report: Dede Henderson, CAPP Treasurer, reports that the
account balance remains at $9,845.98. Elizabeth submitted an invoice
for $25 for ESD which will be paid this month. The charge is for set up
for the Child Abuse Prevention Month calendars. Dede reported that all
the signature cards have been signed.
Child Abuse Prevention Month Calendars: Elizabeth Droscher reported
that the calendars are done & ready for distribution to schools. She
invited those present to take supplies of the calendar and display them
at agencies and businesses. ESD donated the cost of the paper and
printing.
Public Relations: Elizabeth Droscher has arranged with Brian Prawitz
to have radio spots during April. Once Brian provides her with the
dates and times she will set up a schedule for speakers.
Greg Henderson will be on KPIC TV on April 1st to kick off Child Abuse
Prevention Month. The show is being taped this week.
*Together We Can Be 1 Community 4 Kids!* is scheduled for Tuesday,
April 27th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Phoenix School. Phoenix will
provide tables for agencies who wish to display materials. The
following groups requested tables: FDC-Healthy Start; UVDN: Options,
AmeriCorps; Boys & Girls Club; DHS.
*Celebrate Children*Prevent Abuse* our premier annual event is
scheduled for Saturday, April 24 from 11 am to 3 pm at Wildlife Safari.
Karin and her colleagues are going to the Wildlife Safari next week to
make a new map for agency locations. The Wildlife Safari has made some
physical changes to the park so some of us may be in new locations.
There are alligators now!!
If you are staffing a booth for the event, please remember to bring
your own table; bring any agency info you want to distribute and MOST
IMPORTANTLY bring a fun, free activity for children. Be there at 9:30
am to set up your table. Groups of teens from Casa de Belen and RHS
will there to assist vendors in the ways that they can help.
Proclamation: The Douglas County Commissioners will proclaim April as
Child Abuse Prevention Month in Douglas County at their meeting on April
7, 2010 at 9:00 am. Judy Robertson will read the proclamation and Judge
Bill Marshall will accept it.
CAPP Post Office Box: Since we are not sponsoring events that entail a
registration process, we agreed to cancel our post office box. Dede
Henderson will call Judy Robertson and ask her to close it for CAPP.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 21st at 3:00 pm at
Oregon Pacific Bank.
Child Abuse Prevention Partnership Approved Meeting Minutes
February 17, 2010
Participants: Angela Collar; Aubrey Laverty; Catherine Feral; Dan
Miley; Dede Henderson; Diane Pietrzak; Elizabeth Droscher; Greg
Henderson; Karin Hardin; Pam Knudsen for Melody Ross; Sally Joyce
Minutes from the January 20, 2010 were approved.
Treasurer*s Report: Dede Henderson, CAPP Treasurer, reported that the
CAPP account balance is $9,845.88. We are waiting for signatures from
Judy and Charlene to complete the changes in approved account signers.
Boys & Girls Club Update: Working toward building the 3rd leg of their
program * parent education and parent resources. Currently have Spanish
parenting classes. Gillian agreed to ask Phil Bowser for
recommendations regarding potential sources for 40 Asset curriculum.
CAPP Calendar: E
lizabeth reported that she*s working with ESD to see
if they can donate printing costs. She is working with Gillian on info
for the back side of the calendar. Elizabeth secured a place on
Spotlight on Douglas County on March 25th at 12:15 pm. It will air on
April 1st. Greg Henderson agreed to be the spokesperson. We haven*t
yet heard back from Brian Prawitz. Elizabeth will touch based with news
media in March.
Proclamation: Diane agreed to contact Douglas County Commissioners to
see if they will proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Celebrate Children: Karin reported that work has started on the
Celebrate Children event. The group approved a CAPP expenditure of up
to $400 to print the flyers which will be distributed to children
throughout the county.
DCECPC is partnering with UCC on planning and presenting an Early
Childhood Education Conference in Fall, 2010. CAPP members present
agree that we will partner with them but need more details on what type
of help they may need. Several CAPP members are already actively
involved with the conference planning.
Next meeting is set for March 17, 2010 at Oregon Pacific Bank.
