Child Abuse Prevention Partnership Meeting Minutes
February 16, 2011
Facilitator: Dan Miley
Participants: Jerry O*Sullivan, OPTIONS Counseling; Dan Miley,
Commission on Children and Families;
Dave Dunscomb, 211, United Way; Dede Henderson, Treasurer & Volunteer
Family Development Center; Greg Henderson, Manager Oregon Pacific Bank;
Elizabeth Droscher, Phoenix School; Sally Joyce, UVDN; Diane Pietrzak,
DHS
Minutes from January 19, 2011 meeting were approved as written.
Treasurer*s Report: Dede reported that the account balance is
$8,764.58.
Commissioner*s Declaration: Dan will ask Douglas County Commissioners
to declare April as Child Abuse Prevention Month at their April 6, 2011
meeting. Diane will send Dan text previously used by Commissioners for
this purpose.
CAPP Calendar Update: After discussion consensus was reached on this
year*s calendar format. We will adapt the prevention month calendar on
the preventchildabuse website. It includes tips on things we can all do
to prevent child abuse. We will also insert local events. Elizabeth
will prepare the calendar and Diane will look for a resource to have it
printed. We estimate that 2,000 copies are sufficient to distribute to
Boys and Girls Club; YMCA; and other venues serving children.
Diane will call Home Depot to see if they are holding a children/family
event in April. The YMCA is holding an event and wants to participate
in the calendar outreach. Umpqua Partners are not holding Truth, Lies
and Videotapes this year.
CAPP Facebook Page: Pam Knudsen, Boys and Girls Club, will talk with
the Keystone Club on February 17th and let us know on February 18th
whether the club participants are interested and able to create a
Facebook page for CAPP.
Business Event for April: Greg and Sue, this year*s Mama Duck, are
looking into the possibility of holding a business/CAPP event
potentially on Thursday, April 7th from 5 to 7 pm. If it can be
arranged, Rotary Club members and contributors to the annual Rotary Duck
Race event will be invited. A social gathering is thought to be the
best forum * giving contributors and providers an opportunity to mingle
and share information and resources. It will be a by invitation only
event. Greg will send out an email with information as it becomes
available.
211 Presentation: Dave Duncombe, Southwest Oregon 211, gave a verbal
presentation on the 211 project. He is seeking agency input to populate
the database. Once it is on line, it will be accessible on the 211
website. After funding to support the call center for Douglas County is
obtained, it will also be available at 211.
Celebrate Children: Karin gave an overview of the upcoming Celebrate
Children Day! It is scheduled for Saturday, April 30th. Karin has been
busy securing donations for the raffle giveaway and lining up agencies
to host children activity booths. Ideas for additional booths include
Douglas County Museum, Douglas High School or Roseburg High School
Cheerleaders leading kids in fun songs and activities.
We are looking for a way to transport people from a parking lot to the
Wildlife Safari because parking is limited at Wildlife. Jerry will ask
if ADAPT buses may be available; Diane will check with Cow Creek Tribe
on their trolley; Cat Feral is talking to Toby Notenboom about UTRANS
help.
