Celebrating the 10-Year Anniversary of UCAN’s VISTA Coalition with “American Winter”
Mike Fieldman will lead a panel of nonprofit leaders in Roseburg on Feb. 25, 2014, on the topic of poverty and how ordinary Americans were thrust into it by the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The panel will take place immediately after a screening of the documentary film “American Winter” at the Ford Family Foundation Conference Center, starting at 6:30 p.m. This documentary is the last of a three-part series, sponsored by the United Community Action Network (UCAN) VISTA Coalition to celebrate a decade of community service.
Produced and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers, Joe and Harry Gantz, American Winter is a documentary feature film that follows the personal stories of families struggling in the aftermath of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Filmed over the course of one winter in Oregon, American Winter presents an intimate and emotionally evocative snapshot of the state of our economy as it is playing out in many American families.
The UCAN VISTA Coalition began in 2003 with five organizations working together to bring national service members to Douglas County with the intention of expanding the capacity of local nonprofit organizations. To date, UCAN has placed more than 200 VISTAs in nonprofits throughout Douglas, Josephine, Coos, and Jackson counties.
Doors will open for American Winter at 6:15 p.m. Refreshments will be available. For more information about the documentary series, please contact Summer Red at 541‑672‑5392 x4514 or at summer.red at ucancap.org<mailto:summer.red at ucancap.org>.
