Hi Missy and everyone,

Thank you, and it’s not too late! I’m still working on pulling together our document. I appreciate you sharing the About page with me as well as the Reference Services Manual.

Thank you to everyone who shared vision and value type statements and about pages with me. It’s been incredibly helpful!

Enjoy the rest of your summer 😊

Cristen

Hi Cristen,
Hope you are having a great summer as well! It sure is flying by! I saw your email come through at the end of July and now all of a sudden, it's mid-August already, so not sure if you can still use this information.

The Ask a Librarian Delaware service is a statewide service for the Delaware Library Consortium, which includes academic libraries (higher education), public libraries, school libraries, and special libraries. We do not have a separate mission or vision statement from Delaware Division of Libraries<https://libraries.delaware.gov/about-libraries/>, per se, but do have the goal of providing a unique virtual service to all, whether they have a public library card, student card, or no library card. Here is a link to the About page of our Ask a Librarian Delaware staff support site<https://aalstaff.lib.de.us/home/about/> (I know, it's a mouthful! 🙂) that has general information and also a link to the Delaware Virtual References Services Manual (downloadable PDF) that has more detailed information about the service.

Hope that helps!

Enjoy the rest of summer and stay cool during the heatwave(s)!

Kind Regards,
~Missy

Hi Cristen

Scholars Portal<https://scholarsportal.info/> is a consortium that offers many services. Most of our services use the same mission/vision statement. Therefore, Ask a Librarian doesn't have it's own mission/core statement. We do however have a Position Statement. A position statement is supposed to align with the mission/vision/values of the organization, and represents how we want people to see our service.

This is the position statement that we came up with for Ask a Librarian in late 2017 or early 2018:

"Ask a Librarian provides online, on-demand library information services and assistance to end users, including students, faculty, staff, and researchers, at participating institutions within OCUL. Our expert staff provide local, bilingual, and trustworthy answers to your questions and we’re available to you anywhere at extended hours."

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all having a great summer!

AskAway is in the process of action planning, and we’re developing a document that includes our vision and the value of the service for participants.

I’m wondering if you have any examples to share from your services? I’d find it especially helpful to see any statements or examples that mention the value of extending access to libraries / students but am interested in anything you could share.

Thank you so much and let me know if I can provide any clarity about my request 😊
