From our friends at Black Thistle Street Aid<https://www.instagram.com/p/DNJG-_FJjkb/?igsh=MWQ2ZnkxbGIzd2Q4Yw%3D%3D&img_index=1>:

For people surviving out in the elements and those already medically compromised, these temps can be deadly!

  * Stock your neighborhood’s little free pantries or free fridge with nutritious food and frozen water bottles and sports drinks

  * Set up a hose or stock a cooler in your front yard for people to use who pass by

  * If you see someone hunkered down in a public/visible space trying to keep cool in the shade, LET THEM! If you do bug them, ask if they need anything and be okay if they say no.

  * Keep some waters & electrolytes in your car to offer to people

  * Do not call the cops! Police lead to sweeps, which can be deadly in a heatwave!

  * Check in on your neighbors! Be kind! Share resources!

[cid:image066.png at 01DC0B99.93429B70]<https://www.instagram.com/p/DNDzZeURQXi/?igsh=MW9tM3pvNTZhY2VheQ%3D%3D>SET UP A DIY COOLING STATION

From our friends at Free Skool Eugene<https://www.instagram.com/p/DNDzZeURQXi/?igsh=MW9tM3pvNTZhY2VheQ%3D%3D>:

Extreme heat poses serious health risks, specially for those without shelter.

YOU can help your community stay safe and cool by setting up a DIY cooling station in your yard.

All you need are:

  1. shade
  2. ice waters
  3. watering hose
  4. sunscreen
  5. hand sanitizer
  6. snacks

Adding a misting system and a bowl of ice water for pets also makes a huge difference.

We are excited to share an additional housing resource to our community members! The follow information is regarding ReOregon's Housing Support Services<https://www.oregon.gov/ohcs/disaster-recovery/reoregon/housing-support-services/Pages/default.aspx> (HSS) pathway programs, designed to assist Oregonians in their recovery journey from 2020 wildfires by providing essential housing support services. The programs include:

Intermediate Housing Assistance (IHA)

  * IHA provides temporary homes and financial support for short-term housing needs such as rent and utility costs. Note that participants are required to pay 30% of their monthly income toward rent.

Down Payment Assistance (DPA)

  * This pathway provides help with down payments and closing costs for qualified homebuyers who may need additional financial support.

Housing Counseling Services (HCS)

  * U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-certified housing counselors will provide in-depth assistance to individuals and families on a wide range of financial and housing-related topics to create personalized action plans to achieve housing needs and goals.

Each of these programs plays a crucial role in supporting individuals and communities affected by the 2020 wildfire disasters in Oregon. We encourage you to explore these pathways further and share this information with anyone who might benefit from our services.

For more details, please visit ReOregon Housing Support Services website<https://www.oregon.gov/ohcs/disaster-recovery/reoregon/housing-support-services/Pages/default.aspx>.
