Traumatic events can have a lasting effect on a person's mental health. Not everyone who experiences trauma will develop PTSD, but everyone diagnosed with PTSD will have experienced some form of trauma. About 4.1% of the U.S. adult population - over 8 million people - experiences PTSD.
