What you need to know
* The federal government shutdown is over.
* Oregon SNAP is running normally again.
* December SNAP benefits will be sent on the regular schedule.
* Remind customers to check their EBT balance before shopping.
* EBT theft is increasing-help people protect their cards and benefits.
During the shutdown, food benefits were stopped for 1 in 8 people across the U.S.-the first time this had happened in SNAP's 60-year history. In Oregon, where 1 in 6 people rely on SNAP to buy food, this created an urgent need.
Governor Tina Kotek acted quickly to make sure Oregonians didn't go hungry. In a very short window between federal court rulings, she directed ODHS to issue full November SNAP Benefits to all eligible Oregonians on November 7. Her fast and decisive leadership made Oregon one of the first states in the nation to get food benefits out during the shutdown, helping families keep food on the table.
SNAP resumes normal operations
* Starting today, regular SNAP processing has started again.
* People approved for SNAP on or after November 7 will now get their food benefits. They should see benefits on their EBT cards by tomorrow morning.
* December benefits will go out on their regular schedule (the first nine days of the month).
Help customers protect their benefits
There has been a rise in stolen SNAP benefits. Criminals use devices and scams to steal EBT card numbers and PINs. Once they have this information, they can take food or cash benefits.
Encourage customer to learn how to protect their benefits here: https://bit.ly/protectEBTbenefits
If someone's benefits were stolen:
* Call 855-328-6715 right away to cancel the EBT card and ask for a new one.
* Federal funding to replace stolen SNAP benefits ended last year, so stolen food benefits cannot be replaced.
* If someone needs food help, direct them to https://needfood.oregon.gov to find free food markets, food banks, and meal programs.
Supporting customers
* SNAP benefits sent on November 7 will stay on EBT cards, and can be used as normal. Today SNAP also will begin being issued to people who were approved on or after November 7.
* December benefits will be sent out on time.
* Customers can check their balance using the official ebtEDGE app, website, or by calling 888-997-4447.
* If someone thinks their benefit amount is wrong, they can call the ONE Customer Service Center at 800-699-9075.
* If they need food support, direct them to: https://needfood.oregon.gov
Note: The recent shutdown did not change new federal SNAP rules about eligibility or work requirements. Those rules are still going into effect. Some may see a reduction or loss of food benefits because of the new eligibility rules.
