This year, the Downtown Eugene Public Library is once again hosting Tax-Aide! Signe up for an appointment with an AARP Tax-Aide volunteer who will help you file federal and Oregon tax returns for 2025. In addition, AARP will be at the library today (January 13th) from 9am - 2:30pm to provide advance preparation packets to people with appointments. If any appointments are still available, they will also be able to schedule appointments.

Habitat for humanity of Central Lane will open pre-applications for a two bedroom, one bath tandem home at Fischer Village in Springfield. Pre-applications will be available on January 12th at that time you will be able to download them on our website<https://habitatlane.org/>. If you would like to pick one up at the Habitat office, please call to make an appointment at (541) 741-1707, or when the ReStore is open (Wednesday - Saturday, 11am - 6pm and Sunday, 11am - 4pm). The applications will be available up front in the cashiers area (1210 Oak Patch Rd, Eugene OR 97402).

The Patton Veterans Project is hosting a powerful, collaborative weekend filmmaking workshop right here at the University of Oregon. This is your chance to take full creative control to share your experiences and perspective alongside fellow Veterans.

*                     No experience is needed - just bring your story and your creativity!

*                     Led by a team of award-winning film instructors.

*                     It's more than just filmmaking; it's an opportunity to build lasting connections and bridge the gap between creativity and well-being.

Veterans, Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard are all invited to attend. The sessions are free, and all meals are provided! To participate, you must come to all three sessions. Each Saturday starting January 17th local residents  are encouraged to reserve one of the 18 covered parking spaces and fill their vehicle with food and good quality stuff to offer to your neighbors for free. Organizer Ananda Reeves says her motivation to create this weekly event is to provide an opportunity for Grovers to take care of Grovers. The Eugene/Springfield NAACP will host its annual MLK Jr. Celebration this year in combination with "A Day Without Immigrants." The event begins with a march starting at Autzen Stadium. Welcome begins at 9am, with the march starting at 9:45am. The Celebration at the Shedd after the march begins at 11am, including a keynote by Mark Jackson and music by DJ SMUVE.

The purpose of the Share Fair is to connect people with resources, services, and each other in a convenient and fun way. The fair will be providing free resources and services from local organizations and community groups to unhoused and working class members of the community. There will be food, live music, games, and a chance to know other Eugene organizations and folks in the community - and it's all free!

When temperatures drop, keeping warm and safe becomes even more important. Lance County offers a growing list of Warming Spaces where community members can warm up during the day. These include local public buildings and participating businesses that welcome those who need a warm place, especially if home heating is limited.

Some locations may also activate as Warming Shelters when temperatures reach certain thresholds. These sites can open overnight to provide additional support.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace provides free beds to children in need. The organization provides the frame, mattress, sheets, pillow, and comforter, in twin size only.

Much of Lane County is currently under Flood Watch, meaning conditions are right for possible flooding, especially in low-lying areas or areas where high water is often a problem.

To get ahead of possible flooding, Lane County has partnered with local cities and fire departments to offer sandbag supplies at the following locations:

  *   City of Oakridge: 48318 E 1st St, Oakridge OR | Available during business hours
  *   McKenzie Fire Disaster Relief Logistics Building: 42870 McKenzie Hwy, Walterville OR | Residents should enter off Leaburg Dr.
  *   Mohawk Community Church: 91190 Hill Rd, Springfield OR
  *   Coiner Park in Cottage Grove: 1319 E Main St, Cottage Grove OR

Bring your own shovel and gloves. Please take only what you need so as many people as possible can benefit.

Homes for Good is working closely with OHCS, Lane County, and assigned case managers to work with individuals and families that were displaced by the Holiday Farm Fire to connect them to this housing opportunity. The project will address inequitable access to high quality housing in low-income rural communities and community revitalization post disaster.

The third-party waitlists are always open! Quantum manages many different properties in partnership for Homes for Good. Some properties offer units where the rent amount is based on your income, while others offer units at a fixed, reduced rate that is lower than the current market rent. For information about the vacancies at these properties, call the apartment managers directly.

The mission of the Mobile Pantry is to bring more food to high-need places in Lance County. Through this pop-up style market, we distribute a variety of pantry staples, proteins, dairy items and fresh produce. A typical visit to the Mobile Pantry will provide a household with a three-to-five day supply of nutritionally balanced groceries.
