[cid:image006.jpg at 01CA6461.DF06A380]For Middle & High School Students

         WHAT?
This timely Youth Forum will open with a keynote panel of PSU students from the
[cid:image006.jpg at 01CA6461.DF06A380]Middle East and continue with breakout sessions representing the
magnificent, ancient, strategic and complex cultures of
Turkey, Iran, Israel and the Arab World.
This unique cultural immersion experience will also include a mid-day ethnic meal,
[cid:image006.jpg at 01CA6461.DF06A380]entertainment, and a chance to visit both a Middle Eastern Market and
with members of organizations representing several Middle Eastern countries.
Breakout sessions will address religion, science, literature, women & the family,
various viewpoints and country specific art, history and culture.
The Forum will end with each Youth delegation outlining a Middle East Action Plan for its school.

The Youth Forum will take place at Portland State University

WHY?
Relations between the U.S. and the Middle East directly affect the lives of people the
world over. Understanding this region and its people is an essential part of the skills
and knowledge needed to live and work in an increasingly interdependent world.

PSU's Middle East Studies Center www.oia.pdx.edu/mesc<http://www.oia.pdx.edu/mesc>
are partnering in a concerted effort to increase this much needed understanding.

The cost for one or two teachers and a delegation of 10 students is $100.

*This Teach the Middle East Youth Forum is part 2 in the second in our
"Teach the World Educator Conference and Youth Forum Series".

The first in the series was Teach Africa. Next year we plan to travel to East Asia.
