[Domestic Violence issues]

Greetings,

I was recently contacted by a representative from a DV/SA program in Tennessee. They wanted to share with Oregon partners a wonderful transitional housing program that could be available for victims in Oregon who are seeking safety out of state.

Description from an advocate at Mary Parrish:

The Mary Parrish Center for Victims of Domestic & Sexual Violence feel that it is important for other agencies to know about our program in an effort to reach victims of domestic violence nationwide regarding a transitional housing option after they leave their abuser. We are the only single-site therapeutic transitional housing program for victims of domestic and sexual violence in the state of Tennessee.  We believe that the domestic violence shelters nationwide may have suitable candidates for our program.  Although we never know when we may have availability; because we are a 2 year program and we only have 11 units, we want to let other domestic violence agencies know that we continuously take applications.  None of the applications are discarded when we don't have an opening at that time; however, they are referred back to when we do.  Unfortunately, with the apartments only being 1 bedroom, we are not capable of housing more than a family of 3.

I personally felt that it would be beneficial to reach out to other states because I am a survivor who came from Utah after I left my abuser and had the opportunity to be a part of this program.  I know what a blessing it was for me to find The Mary Parrish Center because, not only did it allow me to leave the small town my abuser and I lived in, it afforded me the opportunity to rebuild my life in a way I would never have been able to do elsewhere.  So I kindly ask you to pass along our information to any agency you feel would find it beneficial.  Also, please urge those agencies to visit our website so they have a better understanding of what we do and what services we offer.
