A few articles for you:

(1) Whether in the U.S., France, Brazil, China, Russia, or elsewhere, domestic violence, even with all of its variables, 'looks' the same in terms of its dynamics. This story also illustrates how often different forms of violence intersect with one another and is a good reminder that we should try hard not to put a case into one "silo" or another.

The issue of victims resorting to violence, or being forced to use violence, to end or stem their own abuse is a complicated one. In the Comment section the NYT's has chosen a few that do a good job of discussing the nuances.

(3) Although this story is about sexual assault and the military, the civilian criminal justice system and our victims and survivors face many of the same challenges:

(4) This Thursday the Yale men's basketball team will play in the first round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. They will play without their captain who has been expelled from the school due to a finding of "sexual misconduct."

In 2011, on the heels of the Yale chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon's infamous "No means yes, yes means anal" chant, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights launched an investigation into Yale's handling of sexual violence; the school also established the University-Wide Committee on Sexual Assault that year to better handle complaints. In 2013, the university was also fined $155,000 for failing to report all sexual violence crimes on campus between 2001 and 2002, which is a violation of the Clery Act. That same year, Jezebel reported that six Yale students were found guilty of "nonconsensual sex" and none were expelled."

Campus sexual assault and domestic violence is something that affects Oregon, as well.
