Greetings,

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The vast majority of victims either know and/or are in a relationship with their perpetrator:

Facts at a Glance:

- Among female rape victims perpetrators were reported to be:
¡ intimate partners (51.1%) **College Students (female):
¡ family members (12.5%) 90% know their perpetrator
¡  acquaintances (40.8%);
¡  and strangers (13.8%).
- Among male rape victims, perpetrators were reported to be:
¡  acquaintances (52.4%);
¡  strangers (15.1%)
(CDC, "Sexual Violence: Facts At A Glance," 2012.)

Today also marks the start of National Crime Victims' Rights Week. The theme of this year's campaign is "Expand the Circle: Reach All Victims."

Materials and resources can be found here: https://ovc.ncjrs.gov/notices/NewsFromOVC/OVC_NCVRW_Resources_Email3_online_v1.html?ed2f26df2d9c416fbddddd2330a778c6=ydvdjpppwm-yqqdfwpdq

We can effectively reach more victims by engaging with them in ways that are trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive. At every step in the process, through whichever door a victim chooses to enter our systems, trauma literacy/sensitivity is critical.

**A reminder that DOJ is sponsoring a Certified FETI training in June in Keizer. Flyers attached.

Here's a great illustration of why learning and implementing these trauma-informed techniques and skills is so important to victims/survivors, and to the criminal justice system process:
