January is National Stalking Awareness Month.  There are some helpful resources in the links below about improving awareness, prevention and resources surrounding stalking.

Stalking is a serious crime that impacts over 1 in 6 women and 1 in 17 men in the United States – yet, all too often, it is relegated to an afterthought in our field.

We can change that.

January 2019 marks the fifteenth National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM), an annual call to action to recognize and respond to the serious crime of stalking. In honor of NSAM, the new Stalking Prevention, Awareness and Resource Center (SPARC) -- an initiative of AEquitas -- is pleased to share new resources to help build awareness in your community. SPARC’s Stalking Awareness page has ready-to-use resources for your newsletter, social media account and other communication sources. SPARC is a U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women Technical Assistance Project.

Ideas for NSAM
Your organization can do many things to promote NSAM this month, including:

  *   Share and retweet daily social media posts from SPARC (@FollowUsLegally on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) for the month of January. Make sure to use #NSAM2019 so we can see and share all of your efforts!
  *   How does your organization address stalking? Complete the new Stalking Response Checklist <https://aequitasresource.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c1bdfd1ad93b5e9b78d0f1c61&id=18e7cb2275&e=8ea8faf3a8> (for DV and SA agencies) to reflect on your strengths and areas for growth.
