23rd National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect
APRIL 11–13 and APRIL 18–20, 2023
Virtual 23rd NCCAN
The Children’s Bureau invites you to submit a session or poster proposal for the 23rd National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN), which will be held virtually in April 2023. The 23rd NCCAN offers a unique opportunity for thought leadership and action-oriented dialogue around the conference theme, Doing Things Differently: Moving from the Challenge to the Change.
For the first time, NCCAN will be presented over a two-week period. Use of a robust virtual event platform will enable the 23rd NCCAN to be not only a conference but a destination for learning, engaging, and accessing diverse resources that will help the field to move from the challenge to the change. Live sessions will be presented over the course of six afternoons, April 11-13 and April 18-20. The shorter blocks of time will help to make sure that live content is delivered in digestible segments. Later start times each day will allow attendees across multiple time zones to participate. Use of a dynamic virtual platform will encourage broader audience participation; provide timely access to session recordings and other resources; and increase the diversity of ideas and knowledge-sharing available at NCCAN.
LEARNING TRACKS
The Children’s Bureau (CB) seeks compelling and thought-provoking sessions that reflect diverse backgrounds, communities, and perspectives, including urban, suburban, and rural areas; racially and ethnically diverse populations; and perspectives from the national, state, and local levels. It is our expectation that all NCCAN sessions will reflect CB’s commitment to advancing equity in child welfare systems and increasing benefits to children of color, including families who have experienced multi-generational systemic interventions and disproportionate outcomes. We also strongly encourage the inclusion of parents and young adults with lived child welfare experience as partners and session presenters.
We invite proposals in the following five areas:
1. Advance Equity
2. Prevent Children from Coming into Foster Care
3. Support for Kinship Caregivers
4. Ensure Youth Leave Care with Strengthened Relationships, Holistic Supports, and Opportunities
5. Invest in the Child Welfare Workforce
SUBMITTING YOUR PROPOSAL
All proposals must be submitted through the proposal submission portal NO LATER THAN 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, October 10, 2022. Please do not exceed the character count limits. Proposals must include the following:
