Delivering Difficult News:
Compassionate Trauma Notification
May 14, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. ET
Please join us on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. eastern time, for the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center webinar "Delivering Difficult News: Compassionate Trauma Notification," hosted by Dr. Staci Beers.
Trauma notification is the process of informing someone that their loved one has been seriously injured, killed, or is missing as a result of a violent crime, mass fatality incident, disaster, or other traumatic event. It is one of the most challenging and stressful tasks that victim advocates and allied professionals face in their work. How you deliver the news can have a lasting impact on the survivor's well-being and recovery. In this webinar, you will learn about a 4-step trauma notification model that can be used for in-person and remote notification and includes the consideration of factors such as cultural responsiveness and special populations. Additionally, you will get information on accessing a newly launched online trauma notification training developed by the FBI to help further enhance your skills and knowledge so you feel better prepared to provide a sensitive trauma notification with professionalism, dignity, and compassion.
The "Delivering Difficult News: Compassionate Trauma Notification" webinar is part of the Vital Subjects series. This series will address topics that are critical to the victim services field across the country.
