NEW AAP Webinar: Using CDR Data and a QI Framework to Reduce Sleep-Related Infant Deaths
Sudden Unexpected Infant Death in Inclined Sleepers: 2009-2023'
Dear fatality review colleagues,
The National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention (National Center) is thrilled to announce the publication of 'Sudden Unexpected Infant Death in Inclined Sleepers: 2009-2023' in the March 2026 issue of Pediatrics.
Using child death review (CDR) data from the Pediatric National Fatality Review-Case Reporting System (Pediatric NFR-CRS), 153 sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID) that occurred in inclined sleepers were identified from 2009 to 2003. These deaths took place even after the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued manufacturer recalls of inclined sleepers in 2019. Risk reduction is possible with improved communication of recalls of unsafe infant products, thus leading to safer sleep opportunities for infants.
