Subject: Technical Assistance Grant Opportunity for Local Governments
Importance: High
Greetings Coastal Planners and Partners,
We have some extra grant funds in our NOAA program budget for coastal hazard/resilience planning work and so we are reaching out to all of you with a technical assistance grant opportunity. Here are the details:
We would like to offer a technical assistance grant of up to $10,000 to 1-3 jurisdictions to enhance your comprehensive plans and/or development codes related to Goals 7 or 18 (coastal hazards or beach and dune areas). This work could take many different forms, but here are some examples:
* Adopt a Tsunami Hazard Overlay Zone
* Adopt a Coastal Erosion Overlay Zone
* Adopt a new/updated hazard map to accompany existing hazard regulations
* Develop a Tsunami Evacuation Facilities Improvement Plan
* Update an existing Beaches and Dunes Overlay Zone or related provisions
* Update/improve existing regulations to address natural hazards such as coastal erosion, landslides, liquefaction, or wildfire
* Update comprehensive plan policies/documents related to Goals 7 or 18
* Improve floodplain regulations to adopt higher standards.
* Your related ideas
As long as the project relates to developing or enhancing land use measures for the management of natural hazards, it should qualify for this grant.
This funding must be used by June 30, 2020 so the turnaround on this grant is fast (~3 months). Completed projects can be "adoption-ready" materials since it is unlikely adoption will have occurred by the grant deadline.
The money does not require a match and can be used for a variety of things, such as staff time, landowner notifications, other publication or administrative costs, travel, hiring a consultant, etc.
To apply for this opportunity, please fill out the attached application and send back to me by March 13, 2020 (or sooner). If you are interested, but need additional money or assistance with the application, or have questions, please reach out to me.
We hope to hear from you soon!
Meg
