GIS Leads,
Over the past few months I have mentioned to several GIS folks in other
agencies the idea of keeping the GIS related legislative statistics
loosely coordinated. This is something I have done in the past (but
will not be involved in the 2009 session). However, I have some ideas
that could be useful. I think there may be several benefits to all us
all from this approach. It could include: 1) a better awareness and
understanding of GIS (and it’s related statistics in the legislature),
2) a common clearinghouse for similar data (by Senate/House), and 3)
provides a framework for how to create some of the statistical
tabulations for the upcoming session.
Attached are some quick notes I jotted down. Let me know what you all
think. I am not completely sure what my role (at OED) will be in these
reports this session but strongly believe that using data for effective
management is extremely important.

Please see Joe Bernert's message below. He suggests coordinating the
work to compile and present information for the legislature next
session. If you agree with me that this is a good opportunity, please
let me know who will be compiling information, what you will be
compiling, etc. I'll summarize and look for opportunities to
collaborate and to use the new GIS services GEO has been developing.
