Hi folks, we've been trying to follow up on the Bing in ArcGIS issue. As some of you may have seen this past week, an announcement was made by Esri that Bing imagery will continue to be available in ArcGIS until the end of this year. However, the issue remains, we just have a bit longer to figure things out. One key issue I've heard with Esri's World Imagery is that it takes longer for the imagery to load and refresh than Bing. I can't remember who specifically said this, but as you can see from the message below, Esri has some questions about it. If you've experienced this issue, please let me know how to answer the questions below. Thanks!

Hi Dave,
I have started to look into this question, I found two threads that mention web base map performance comparisons and as you would expect I need a few more details to know how to proceed.
Are these in ArcMap? What version?
Are these web clients like browsers or in a Flex app?
Yes, the performance for the World Imagery map (and other base map) should be comparable to Bing and other popular tiled map services. We typically see tile requests in 0.2s response time per request.
It would be good to confirm what client application they are using (e.g. ArcGIS.com map viewer, ArcMap, etc.). If it is a Desktop application, perhaps they can test on ArcGIS.com to see how the performance compares.

TJ, John,
Cy has tasked me with trying to get a quick response from Esri on a question several users have been asking. We need an answer by next Monday, the 8th, before our GIS Program Leaders meeting.
Now that the Bing maps service is no longer available for free, many users have switched to the World Imagery Service, and have reported that its performance is slower than the old Bing service. Is Esri aware of the issue, and do they have any plans to resolve it?
Do either of you know the answer, or who I should contact to get an answer?
Thanks,
