Just a reminder of my request for government business processes that use GIS web services, due by April 24. The example below from DEQ is precisely what I'm after. Thanks to those that have sent information already!

Subject: RE: GIS web services use
Hi Cy,
The DEQ has several examples that highlight how we utilize GIS web services:
* Identification of addresses to see if they are inside the Vehicle Inspection Program boundary for vehicle testing purposes
* Identification and management of DEQ permits within certain counties, watershed boundaries, drinking water sources etc.
* Location of water quality monitoring sampling points along streams, rivers and lakes for water quality testing
* Identification of rivers, lakes and streams that exceed water quality standards
* Mapping and identification of point and non point sources of air pollution
* Identification of E-cycles locations for recycling electronic equipment such as computers, monitors and televisions
* Identifying drinking water sources and locating public drinking water source areas.
I hope this is helpful.
Thanks,
Malavika

Subject: [gpl_list] GIS web services use
Importance: High
Hi folks, I was recently asked to provide a performance measure for the COO related to GIS across state government. It seemed to me a good performance indicator would be how many state government business processes use GIS web services. A government business process is a bit difficult to describe in the abstract, but examples are easy to point out. For example, a business process would be identification and management of field burning, or invasive pest management, both from Department of Agriculture. Other examples would be tracking lottery investments, tracking criminal activity, managing foster child relocations, etc.
GIS web services include Google maps, ArcGIS Online, the Oregon Address Locator Service, the Framework data services, and others like the ones here: http://www.oregon.gov/DAS/CIO/GEO/pages/geoservices.aspx. It would include web mapping services you've developed yourselves, as well.
If you have business processes that are using one or more GIS web services, please let me know what they are by April 24. This is a very good opportunity to show the COO and other state leaders how GIS is making a difference in state government. Thanks! If you have questions, please let me know.
